We are SAX Print, a small family-owned company from Virovitica that has been involved in screen printing since 1983.
Some of our long-standing clients may remember us under the name SAX-Design, but although the name has changed, our commitment to quality, durability, and continuous learning has remained the same – if not stronger than ever!
What sets us apart is large-format printing and printing on ceramic and heat-resistant glass – services that no one else in the region can offer. In addition, we specialize in printing traffic signs with reflective inks, printing various types of adhesives, and rotary printing on objects of all sizes – from barrels to pens.
In short, whatever you envision, we will find a way to make it happen.
For us, there is no request too unusual, no dimension too large, or material we cannot master, whether it’s paper, textile, or glass.
So, if you have an idea, contact us!
We will make sure it becomes a reality.
Zlatko Kovačević discovers screen printing at the School of Applied Arts and Design and decides it is his life’s calling.
He builds his own equipment (rack, exposure table, semi-automatic machine) and starts working from home.
Workshop construction is completed, and SAX-Design, the predecessor of SAX Print, is founded.
The company grows, the team expands, equipment becomes more modern, enabling larger format printing.
SAX-Design evolves into SAX Print, services expand, and innovation remains in focus.
The story of SAX Print begins long before the company’s official establishment. As early as the 1970s, at the School of Applied Arts and Design, founder Zlatko Kovačević discovered the technique of screen printing and was immediately fascinated by it. Even as a high school student, he knew that this was the calling he wanted to pursue – and he persevered.
About ten years later, in his own home, he built the first rack for displaying prints, a table for exposing screen printing emulsion, and his first semi-automatic printing machine. As capacities increased thanks to new equipment, so did demand, leading to the construction of a house-workshop along the main road in Virovitica.
In 1990, construction was completed, and SAX-Design, the predecessor of today’s SAX Print, was founded. In these early years, the business focused on printing stickers on PVC foil, posters, advertising and illuminated billboards, and large quantities of textiles. Alongside managing the business, Zlatko also found time for additional training, including specialized HALFTONE I and HALFTONE II programs in Thal, Switzerland.
As the team grew, so did the workshop, and machines became more advanced, enabling printing on increasingly larger formats. Learning and innovation have always been the foundation of our work. Today, however, Zlatko is no longer innovating alone – his son Fabijan is by his side, deciding to continue the family tradition and take over SAX-Design, now SAX Print.
From its beginnings to today, this small family-owned company has gone through numerous phases of development, but one thing has always remained the same: a constant pursuit of progress, introduction of new services, pushing boundaries, and delivering only the best quality to its clients.
Over more than 40 years of existence, our family business has undergone various phases and transformations.
Today, under our new name SAX Print, we also present a new visual identity: a stylized silkworm (Bombyx mori), placed on a mesh resembling a screen print observed under a microscope.
You might be wondering: why the silkworm?
The answer lies in the very roots of this craft.
Namely, screen printing was originally called silk printing (serigraphy), because printing meshes were once made from real silk – and silk, of course, was obtained precisely from the silkworm.
Our logo is actually conceived as a fusion of two worlds that guide us.
On one side stands the silkworm: a symbol of tradition, natural material, and quiet diligence.
On the other side is a geometric mesh, a symbol of technique, precision, and a modern approach to printing.
This is how we connect past and present, craft and design, nature and technology. Just as we do with every print that leaves our workshop.
Although small, silkworms have always played a significant role in creating something considered high-quality, luxurious, and durable.
Similarly, our work may seem simple, but behind every print lies countless details, knowledge, and passion.
